Just to sum it up so its all clear:
1. All pets the same.
2. Spider with a fractional higher damage output.
3. Armor level on lev 20 Pet is 80 and they move 20% faster than before.
4. Moa Bird is the largest pet I believe.
5. Vermillion is right about the prefixes on the pets.
6. I was not aware that you could not charm a bear in presearing. It has
been done. You just need to be two to do it and time it right.
7. Pet evolving to prefixes....I have never been able to figure it out if its
right. Bla bla bteween lev 12-15 if high BM etc etc....shrug.
8. Before last update, based on data your pet at Beastmastery 12 would
pack roughly about 10-11 dps. Add in Call of Haste and do the math. Not
counting pet attacks. Now I'm not sure sinc ethey increased the pets
speeD. HOWEVER IF IT SAYS +15 in skill description. Then I have found it is similar to what a bow attack would do at +15.....yes duuuh of course. But just had to point it out.
9. Pets more so now than before are getting a more important role in PvP
and PvE. Easy bleed on target. Ferocius strike.
10. They grow with level. Ever seen a level 20 Moa ? Enormous...
11. They do have different damage types though, blunt, piercing etc.
12. How do u make the pet attack first ? Find an obstruction. FIRE. Your arrow reaches target, but your wolfie or Moa will storm in and Aggro.
13. And it is fun.

Elder pets do a little more, not just spiders. An elder wolf does the same amount, hence why you get one on a pvp character.

By the way, I named my Warthog Oink in honour of the Oink of Gate of Kryta: when I played the WBE, I always wanted to charm Oink .
I believe "Playful" is a prefix given to your pet if you grant it a lot of attention (comfort animal and such).

I named mine Pork Soldier, I've also named it Porque and White Meat. I noticed that when my pet advanced to Hearty he about doubled in size, so he's not small any more.

The underworld spider doesn't come out of a chest, it just spawns after u did a quest near a fountain. And it's at lvl 20 yes, and it doesn't distract or poison without skills. I can know, my ranger owns one .

People only think the Spider is the strongest pet because the tests that were took out matched a dire spider( +2 attack, -60hp) , against a hearty bear(-2 attack, +60hp). All pets are equal. Anet also states that they will never bring any "best weapon" into the game that would unbalance the economy, this is the same with pets. I've had a hearty black widow, who did less damage than a dire bear, and I've had a dire widow, who did more damage than a Hearty bear. It all depends on evolutions.
Heres evolutions and a few paths:
Playfull- -1 attack, +30hp
Aggresive- +1 attack, -30hp
Hearty- -2attack, +60hp
Dire- +2 attack, -30hp
Elder- +1 attack, +30 hp( not confirmed,)
Evolution Paths.
Aggresive-Dire
Playfull-Hearty
Aggresive-Elder
Playfull-Elder.
A pet is usually evolved around level 11 and 15. A pet ONLY evolves twice. Hearty, and I can confirm this, seems too be the " larger" evolution.
My personal favourite is elder, as I get attack and hp bonus at the same time.
But remember, there is no BEST pet, it really is down too personal preference, ie: what looks coolest, what evolution you want.
Elder seems the hardest evolution too recieve, as it requires around 4 hours of " persific" training, as in only letting your pet do certain damage. Although people who get Elder without training are just lucky, as the pet recieved the correct training.
The only reason people think Spiders are overpowered is because it was a " Dire Spider" matched against "Hearty Bear/Other animal", therefor people would think that the dire spider has better attack, it does, against a hearty, but it also gets less hp.
And last, a few basics:
All pets get the same armour ( depending on level)
All pets get the same attack speed( although it may look different)
The special attacks that bears and lizards make( final thrust+ brutal mauling) are for show only, these deal no extra damage.
Spiders DO NOT deal out poison, and they never have.
I hope this answered everyones questions/ queries.
Regards, Ashleigh.

Actually, from my own personal tests the numbers are closer to:
Hearty x-2 to x-4 attack +60hp
Dire x+2 to x+4 attack -60hp
Elder x attack +0hp
Take the 'x' to be whatever you want, since my tests only pertained to relative values. This means if you're going to claim the Elder has +1 damage, you need to also be claiming approx. +3 to 5 damage for the Dire.
The rest of your information was pretty good though Ashleigh. I will point out, though, that Elder isn't any harder to evolve than any other pet, despite people's hang-up. They game really picks up on your play style and gives you an appropriate pet for it. If you're not coming up with the evolution you want maybe you should rethink either your play-style, or why you want that pet.
I'd also like to remind people that we do have a very accurate pet guide thread in the Community Works area. Please use it rather than speculate!

Thanks Jenov, I'd like to thanks "Dralspire" for explaining this to me ingame
I only stated that I thought elder was hardest because I have had 9 different pets, some were the same species. I always kept recieving dire or hearty pets ( hearty, mostly). The only one time I recieved an elder was when I took information from Dralspire on how too reach elder stage, it took me about 3-4 hours of training, and you have too be very picky on it.
Regards, Ashleigh.

I say spiders are the best pet ... for an ascended player. It comes lvl 20 and you dont need to bother leveling it.

Levelling pets is pretty easy. I leveled my necromancer's pet Moa from 3 to 20 in a few hours - if you have a build that can solo a desert/south shiverpeaks/fire island area you can level a pet no problem.
